Hello Fellow Wizards and future Wizards. My name is Camar Jackson and I am the Head Coach of the Westside Wizards Basketball. Most of you may not know but we are going on our Third season with Wizards Basketball. We first started in the fall of 2008 with 4-5 year olds at the Galtazen Recreation Center. Then last year, at the Westside Rec. This year we are attempting to expand the program to different age groups. The following will hopefully give a little insight of how I want to break the teams down.
For Ages 4-5 years (Mites) and 6-7 years (Pee-Wee), will be playing at the Westside Recreation Center located at the Don Haskins (Formally the Westside Recreation Center located at 7400 High Ridge, Phone #587-1623). This is a co-ed league. Though this is not an independent league, I still want the West Wizards represented properly. Therefore, if your child is in the above ages please send me an email (cajackson25@gmail.com<mailto:cajackson25@gmail.com>) or call me at (915-203-2196) with your child’s name and date of birth. This way I can see how many kids I will have for each age group. I am looking to no more than 10 kids per team. If needed and if enough volunteer coaches are available we will make two teams. So please let me know ASAP! I do have some kids returning from last season.
Fee is $34 (this does not include fee for the jerseys that will be purchased)
Registrations: December 6- January 8
Coaches/Parents Meeting January 8
League Starts January 15- March 5.
For the Winter Basketball League for ages 8-14 (very completive league). The fall league is still going on so I do not have much information yet. What I do need to accomplish though is to get the names and ages of your child that wants to play. In speaking with Hiram Samaniego, who runs the league, advised me to start getting my team ready as in November registrations will begin.
With this league I will structure the team according to the number of kids who register. For example; if I have seven 8 year olds and two 9 year olds then I will have the kids play in the nine and under league just to have a complete team and not turning away a child due to odd numbers in age. At the same time if a child is 7 years old and more advance in skill level I may request the parent to place him on the older team instead of with the Pee-wee.
The entry fee for this league will be $440 per team. This does not include uniforms. So for now the help I need is to send me an email or call me with your child’s name and date of birth so I can get the kids slotted into the teams. Second, if any parents are willing to assist in coaching a team please let me know. I am looking at having approximately 3-4 teams (two teams at the Rec. Center and 1-2 in Winter Basketball). Last, for the Winter basketball a place will need to be secured for practices. If any one can assist in this will be great. The Rec Center has days set aside for practices.
Once again please contact me with your child’s name and date of birth or if you have any questions. Don’t be afraid your child will not be good in basketball. We will work with them. If I did not indicate or was not clear, both leagues include girls. The Pee-wee is Co-ed and the Winter league a all girl team will have to be formed.
